TREY PETTIS

Pettis is a very good technician with matching athletic ability; has great size for the center position at the major level of competition. Does a very good job getting the ball up to the QB while also handling the shotgun snap with consistent accuracy; shows good flexibility in a three point stance; comes off the ball with good initial quickness and first step; gets a good fit playing with a flat back and good pad level. Although we like is overall drive blocking technique his playing strength and explosion in 1 on 1 blocking situations must improve. This is a smooth athlete who plays on or off the line of scrimmage with balance and agility. Runs well, and is seldom out of position; demonstrates the ability to block quick 1st and 2nd level defenders; should be successful gaining leverage on shaded down linemen. Does a nice job when asked to pull and trap; is well balanced and always under control. Flashes good quick set ability; no bad exchanges or errant gun snaps; can bend and anchor vs. the bull rush; has good initial punch, location and extension. This guy is definitely an out of the box blocker, able to pull and help with outside pass rushers. We see this prospect capable of making all the required blocks at the next level. His game day intelligence is excellent along with a diligent attempt to finish blocks. Pettis has great size and athleticism. If his explosion and playing strength improve during his senior year, this could be a player with immediate starting potential. Regardless, an outstanding career at the major level of competition is evident.
