SHANE MCDERMOTT

McDermott is a solid offensive lineman with the versatility to play any of the interior positions but is best suited for center or guard. The only asset this guy may be lacking is great overall size. He has good toughness, physicality and athleticism. Shows good initial quicks. Really gets after down linemen and linebackers. Comes out of his stance with a flat back and good leg drive. Consistently maintains power angles throughout the block and demonstrates excellent leg drive. Gives excellent effort downfield and on the backside of the play. Sometimes finds it tough to finish blocks against bigger defenders but really is a fighter. Uses hands well but packs a more jolting first blow delivery. Shows the ability to lock the hands into the frame of the defender and drive. Good lineman in space; slips to linebacker depth with ease, moves well and can adjust his course to level two and three defenders. McDermott has the chance to be a very solid offensive lineman at the next level but will need to add some bulk and overall strength to go along with his active feet. Pass-pro will need improvement as well. He is a very good technician and has real toughness. His effort and overall mobility are what coaches look for in a lineman. He can develop into a major contributor at the next level. We like him as a potential center to mask some of his smaller size.
