Kelly is a tough 1 on 1 drive blocker with the playing strength and athleticism to get movement off the line of scrimmage. His present size is what we like to see for the center position at the major level of competition. Shows good flexibility from a three point stance as an offensive tackle; his initial quickness and explosion are good coming off the ball; can lower his pad level a little on first contact but overall his technique is solid along with his fit, balance, base and leg drive; this insures his ability to maintain contact while getting movement off the line. Flashes the first step quickness and follow through to gain front side leverage on running plays off the edge; can play on his feet in space displaying very good short trap ability and demonstrating he can block linebackers in space. This is an aggressive run blocker who works hard to finish and will punish defenders with pancake blocks. Pass protection is an area where this prospect shows promise although improvement will be necessary in all areas. Flashes good initial quick set skill, can bend but at times leans in. Has good arm length and his initial punch indicates better than average playing strength; must work on location and extension however we like his hand quickness and effort to re-locate inside the frame; possesses the agility to play flat footed and slide, indicating his potential as an outside the guard box pass protector. Gets out in front of the screen plays and is effective blocking in space. With a projected move to center at the next level, Kelly made need some time and perhaps a red shirt year to polish his skills.
