MALCOLM MITCHELL

You wont find many athletes in this class rangier and faster than Mitchell; a legit two-way prospect who will have offensive and defensive coordinators fighting over his services at the next level. His blend of speed, ball skills and athleticism are off the charts. Has good height and a lean, yet deceptively strong, high-cut frame with room a lot of physical development. On offense, he is explosive off the line and can quickly get defensive backs on their heels. Shows he can quickly stretch a defense and get behind coverage. A long strider who covers a lot of ground but showcases an extra gear as well and great acceleration. Tracks/adjusts to the deep ball extremely well with great hand-eye coordination. An excellent high-pointer who soundly times his jump and plucks the ball at its highest point with great arm extension. Very difficult to defend on the contested jump-ball matchup and those attributes should allow for early playing time, at least in redzone packages if he lands on offense. Will need to work on sinking his butt and becoming sharper out of his breaks to create consistent separation; relies on go routes for most production. High-cut frame hinders this area at times but he is still elusive and fluid through the hips. Difficult to wrap up after the catch. Slippery and deceptively strong, particularly through his upper-body. Consistently wards off high arm-tackles and keeps his legs/body moving on contact. Lacks some initial burst but has great long-speed to take the distance when he breaks free in the openfield. Carries over same attributes as a returner and safety on defense. Great deep zone defender with his excellent range to get over the top of routes and adjustments to the ball in the air. His makeup speed is in an upper-tier level. However, he will need to work on his man-to-man coverage technique and have concerns about his narrow frame and tendency to play high as a run supporter. Will need to add some bulk to play down in the box and provide stout run support at the next level and remain durable. Overall, Malcolm is one of the faster and more versatile athletes in 2011 who has immediate impact type of ability.
