MACK BROWN

Brown is one of the more complete backs in this class and projects very well as a featured running back at the next level. Could end up being one of best backs in this group when its all said and done. We wish he had a bit more bulk with his downhill running style, but he is compact through his lower-body, well-built and should play at the 200-pound range at the college level. He attacks the hole at full speed and rarely takes unnecessary lateral cuts. He's a one cut and go runner who is very quick to square up his shoulder pads and accelerate north-south. He can still make defenders miss through the hole with subtle stop-start cuts and good lateral footwork. Brown has a wide lower base that helps his power but has deceptively good hips needed to bounce it outside and cut laterally without gearing down much. Brown runs with his eyes and sees the small cutback creases open quickly and decisively hits them with good suddenness. A natural runner, he displays very good body control, balance and the ability to make himself small as an inline runner and pick and dart through the initial traffic. He is strong enough to get yards after contact. Brown knows when to lower the shoulders and fight for the extra yards. Powerful thighs and lower-body never stop on contact and he is consistently fighting and driving his legs for extra yards. He has good initial momentum through the hole. Combine that attribute with his low center of gravity means he will frequently bounce off a lot of initial contact. However, he is not overly elusive for a sub-200 pound back in the openfield. We have concerns about his current running style translating to the next level until he packs on the required bulk. He can pull away in the second level, but Brown's not a guy who changes speeds well with a great second gear. While he may lack a bit of size for his aggressive running style and some game-breaking "play speed", we still feel Brown has all the physical tools and natural feel as a runner to be very productive at the next level. His key will be added size and strength to remain durable as a high-carry back and effective after first contact. Overall, he's a great back who should be very highly coveted.
