KOLTON HOUSTON

Houston has the size speed and athletic ability to begin his career on either side of the ball. Could get recruited as a defensive tackle or offensive lineman, most likely guard due to his lack of pass-blocking skills. We like his great initial quickness and ability to run and pursue to the football on defense. Displays very good flexibility in his stance along with good get-off and first-step quicks. Brings his hips with him and flashes good upper-body explosion into a blocker. Can straighten up offensive lineman with his initial charge and separate. Reads and reacts well, with the hand quickness to shed blockers. Gets down the line of scrimmage quickly with good pursuit angles and closing quickness. Is a solid tackler. Shows quick explosion with good power-rush ability. Moves the QB out of the pocket. Has the ability to change direction and step over blockers when in pursuit. Is an aggressive, tough defensive player who appears to have the frame that will allow him to add additional weight. If he begins on offense we like his great athleticism, footwork and quickness as a future tackle. Shows quick-set ability and good hand use in pass protection to develop. Displays great quickness and explosion out of his stance as a run-blocker; can get movement versus down linemen and has the athletic skills to block second level defenders. Explosive when he gets his hands on a defender and jolts them back off the ball. Displays good inside hand technique. Very physical, tough and is a mauler inside. Overall, Houston may not need a redshirt year depending on his growth and skill level upon entering college. Likely to see early playing time with his great versatility.
