JORDAN PHILLIPS

Phillips is a fairly athletic big man who could give a college program some options in how they use him. He plays tight end and on the defensive line in high school. He is not a bad tight end, but that likely is not his best fit in college. With his current size if he lands on offense at the next level it will most likely be at tackle. We do think the better overall fit for him is on defense. He has good size and should settle in at defensive tackle, but could also fit well as an end in a three-man front. He is big kid and looks on film to carry his weight well and should be able to add even more good size with time in a college weight program. He flashes the ability to get-off the ball well. He displays the ability to be tough at the point of attack. He will flash the ability to come out of his stance and shoot his hands and bring power from his lower body. When he does that he can snap a blocker back and easily shed to play the ball. He needs to be more consistent in his technique. He looks to be often bigger and at times much bigger then his opposition and will need to meld his size with consistent technique to be successful at the next level as it will be harder to just overpower opponents. Displays the ability to play half-a-man and can get up-field and get penetration. He runs well for his size. He needs to be sure to take good angles in pursuit, but can be a factor on the perimeter. He can be a solid tackler and at times can lay a vicious lick. Displays a good motor. As a pass rusher he seems able to power his way past blockers. He will need to expand his pass rush arsenal and be active with his weapons. Phillips is a good prospect. He has size and ability, coupled with upside. He will need to adjust to a possible big jump in competition and might really benefit from a red-shirt, but could develop into a real productive defensive tackle.
