ALL STARS PROFILE

HASEAN CLINTON-DIX

Clinton-Dix is one of the better all-around safeties in this class. A great athlete with an impressive combination of size and speed. Is very balanced versus the run and pass. Tough and aggressive. Has prototypical safety height and body length. Well-built with great strength. Flashes great explosiveness to the football. Transitions quickly with little wasted motion and great burst out of his pedal. Displays quick, decisive diagnosing skills in zone coverage. Soundly reads the quarterback, sees underneath routes develop and anticipates the pass. Very instinctive safety. Shows great plant-and-drive burst and closes on the underneath pass with striking burst. A big time hitter who can separate the ball from the receiver with his timing and velocity on contact. An intimidating presence over the middle who is very effective defending intermediate routes. Limits second efforts when receivers do make the underneath grab. Has the hip-fluidity to turn and run in man-to-man and position himself correctly as a deep zone defender. Utilizes good body length to get between ball and receiver; breaks up a lot of passes. Tracks the downfield through well and will high-point displaying good ball skills. Equally impressive on run support. Is physical and strong at the point of attack and can get over blocks. Pursues with good angles and leverage on the ball. Tackles with good pad level and pop. Knows how to strip and create turnovers. Very effective blitzer with great chase speed closing from the backside. Makes a lot of production on or near the line of scrimmage. While a good ball-hawk he does need to work on wrapping up instead of just inflicting a big shoulder hit. Coverage technique and footwork could use polish as well. Could grow out of position if he continues adding size and loses some of his quickness, change-of-direction skill and long-speed. May end up growing into an OLB or hybrid safety/Bandit type of defender. While a bit of a tweener, Clinton-Dix' scheme versatility is very valuable in today's defenses with a lot of sub-packages; he could play a number of different positions in the back-seven. A great athlete with a lot of physical tools and intangibles as a defensive prospect.
