GREG TOWNSEND JR.

Townsend certainly looks the part of a college defensive end as he is a physically good looking prospect. The son of a former NFL defensive lineman, the younger Townsend is tall, well-built and very rangy in body length with long arms and has the frame to add even more bulk in time. He has a good get-off and anticipates the snap well. He is solid versus the run, but will likely enter college a little more effective as a pass-rusher. He is not a pure speed edge rusher, but is active with his weapons and will try and work moves and attack with a plan. Displays a good command of two to three moves including a rip, swim, spin and also displays the ability to counter. Against the run he is solid and will use his hands to engage and separate from blockers though he needs to be a bit more consistent. Plays with good pad level and can play in a "football" position with his knees bent and can generate power from his lower body. He can still appear to be growing comfortable with his long frame and needs to work on his overall fluidity and his ability to play flat down the line. He does have a good motor and is a physical kid. Tackles well and displays a solid burst to the ball. Townsend is a good football player who already seems a little ahead of the curve in the overall fundamentals of defensive line play and he also shows continued upside especially physically. He could also be a swing guy in college.
