DAVARIS DANIELS

This kid is an impressive prospect on the hoof. Daniels is a playmaker that has spent time both at quarterback and wide receiver and displays excellent overall athleticism. His size/athletic ability/strength makes him a coveted offensive weapon especially in the red area. He is a raw, but smooth athlete. Has an incredibly long stride, but gains ground quickly and comes off the ball with nice surge. Has long arms and a wide catch radius. At this level he is used as a downfield threat because of his size/speed ratio. Shows very good body control along the sideline and can high point the ball with tremendous leaping ability. Has a size advantage and he also extends above his head which allows for him to win in most jump ball contests. He is high cut so as a route runner he can tend to gear down and round off cuts. Needs to be aware of his pad level and develop more burst into and out of the break on intermediate routes. Wins on athleticism alone at this level because he is very physical and athletic. He has big hands and catches the ball away from his frame with good pluck and tuck. Can adjust to the high ball and poorly thrown balls due to his long arms-- is a great target on underneath crossing routes and slant routes where he can use his frame and shield the defender from the ball. He has deceptive change-of-direction and elusiveness. Shows some sneaky quickness after the catch and is capable of making the first defender miss in the open field. The biggest question for us on Daniels is just how fast he is. At times he looks like his top end speed is good and he can stretch and others he looks to climb the ladder and lacks that second gear to track vertically. Overall, Daniels' measurables and athleticism are too good to ignore and he could really blossom as a route runner in time. Very good player.
