Rettig is a guy that with a huge senior season which we expect he'll have (after transferring schools) could really thrust himself into this classes best group of quarterbacks. He is a big athlete with a big arm-- a pocket guy first with excellent athleticism to make plays with his legs when he needs to. He is very well built and strong, has a tall, thick frame and possesses one of the finest arms in this class along with Andrew Hendrix. He is crafty with excellent mobility and he shows the ability to make plays outside the pocket with his feet. He can make every throw on the field-- even some when his feet are not set and a quick release. He can put a lot of velocity on the ball when he needs to and an fit the ball into some tight creases in coverage. He is a tough guy to sack, not only because of his quick feet, but he also gets the ball out extremely fast. Can beat the rush with his arm. He has a quick set, terrific feel for the pocket around him, creates a lot of second chances with his feet, and is a threat to run. Has the size to survey the field and can make all the necessary throws with good overall power. His delivery mechanics are smooth and over-the-top and the ball really jumps off his hand. He can drive the ball vertically with ease and throws well on the run and across his body. Has show the ability to work through progressions, but is not consistent in this area yet. Will leave the pocket too early at times-- gets antsy with his feet and this will affect his accuracy if he isn't careful. What we do like about him is his drop speed and footwork from center. He isn't always in the shotgun. The biggest issue with Rettig right now is ball speed-- he only knows one and that is full throttle. He must learn to change ball speeds and develop some touch on underneath throws. Must become more savvy with his arm. Overall, Rettig is going to start garnering a lot of attention. He can be raw, but his measurables and physical tools are very good and give him upside to develop.
