BRANDON COLEMAN

Coleman is a mammoth prospect both as a safety and wide receiver who possesses rare measurables and good overall athleticism given his stature. He is tall, thickly built and has a wide catching radius. This is a prospect that possesses good overall top-end speed, but lacks quick-twitch explosion. Climbs the ladder and is a rumbling, physically-imposing target in the passing game. We feel he may end up as an H-back/tight end prospect or even a front seven prospect on defense at the next level. Surges off the ball and can muscle his way through routes and intimidate defensive backs with his size and long arms. Is an efficient player on underneath routes where he can shield the ball from the defensive back and use his size to box out coverage. Has the size to be a factor down the sideline and shows some promise in this area, but lacks the burst to get over the top of speedier defenders. Is at his best in the short and intermediate passing game on slants, outs and curl routes. Working against zone defense is the best fit for him because he does a nice job of recognizing coverage and settling into open holes in the defense. Has big hands and has shown flashes of extending away from his frame and attacking the football. However, while Coleman possesses great size and should be a terrific red-zone target, he is a better athlete than he is a football player at this stage. Does not win in jump-ball situations like he should and shows inconsistent hands. Does not always catch the ball with ease or away from his frame. He should be a guy that utilizes his size and long arms to out-jump and muscle the ball away from defenders in contested matchups, but does not consistently show he can. His lack of explosiveness is the primary reason he will likely make a move inside, which would be a very good home for him. We love his physical gifts and would like to see him become the football player his skills show he could be.
