Benson can run, close and hit as good as some of the top linebackers in this class. His frame is very impressive and hints of great upside. Long, rangy and his leaner body should explode with bulk when he enters a fulltime college weight training program. Could potentially play all three linebacker positions in a 4-3 defense. Will always need to watch leverage with his high-cut frame but he plays with good bend and is a flexible athlete. Makes quick reads and finds the ball in a hurry between the tackles. Gets over trash quickly with good lateral agility and fluidity. Changes direction without a lot of wasted motion and flashes great outside run support skills with his speed and striking closing burst. Difficult to outflank this guy with his perimeter speed and long body. Displays great sideline-to-sideline range. Collision tackler who demonstrates striking velocity closing in space. Needs to work on reading the pass quicker and his pattern matching skills but he is comfortable around the ball and does a great job breaking and blanketing his underneath zone. Disruptive off the edge as blitzer with his long body, good lean/dip and first-step quickness. At this time our only concern is his ability to sift through the wash and effectively hold his base at the point of attack versus bigger college linemen on the cutoff block. Has long arms and gets over blocks quickly but does lack a wide base and thickness through his elongated body. That said, Benson has tremendous upside with his frame, skill set and natural nose for the football. Tough, physical, athletic and always seems to be around the ball making plays.
